Feel good, made of wood

Five townhouses

Ligno Living is a small residential development in Riga, set on a quiet street in Bieriņi, a part of Mārupe.

Ten residences

Twin residences of approximately 200 square metres each, built entirely from cross-laminated timber (CLT).

Built from wood

Two storeys, high performance CLT-built with visible wood structures inside. Mature trees outside.

Choosing to live differently

Most homes are assembled. This one is composed. Structure, interior, light, landscape and privacy. It was created by people who agreed on what a house should feel like before they agreed on what it should look like.

The decision was wood. Houses built from engineered timber. Because the materials we live around matter. Wood naturally balances indoor humidity, creates a stable microclimate, and adds a sense of warmth impossible to imitate.

Gold and diamonds minerals can be artificialy made and exist throughout the universe. Wood does not. Wood is alive. Wood breaths. Wood grows.

Engineered,
not decorative

Cross-laminated timber, or CLT, is the structural backbone of contemporary timber architecture in Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Scandinavia. In the Baltics, this remains rare.

Houses at Ligno Living are built from CLT. Walls, floors, ceilings. It is left visible where it deserves to be seen.

Atmosphere

Wood stabilises humidity, softens acoustics and holds temperature. Timber surfaces add warmth.

Permanence

Engineered timber is a long-life material. Strength and resistance are built into the structure.

Precision

Prefabricated timber elements. Assembled with tighter tolerances than conventional construction.

Calm geometry, honest material

Two storeys. Twin residences. Contemporary CLT-built architecture rooted in the site’s history.

The houses are designed by 7AM Architects, the studio behind the Lithuania-Latvia Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka, working from a simple brief: build something that earns its place among the trees.

The structure is the surface

Inside, the CLT panels remain visible. Ceilings and walls are wood, not painted to look like wood, not laminated to imitate wood. The grain is the finish. Light moves across it slowly.

Every switch, socket, sightline and storage line was placed with intention. The interior is calm because it has been resolved, not because it has been emptied. Warmth is structural.

Privacy, written in greenery

The site keeps the trees that were already here. The muted palette of coniferous planting, grasses, natural stone and weathering wood extends the tactile qualities of the CLT architecture into the landscape.

Boundaries are softened. Sight lines are shaped by the landscape, not by architecture alone. A small tree house set among mature trees, gives the youngest residents a place of their own. The result is a community without gates.
